Position Overview

Lorain County Community College (LCCC) is inviting applications for a temporary full-time faculty role within the Microelectronics Manufacturing Bachelor of Applied Science program. Reporting to the Dean of Engineering, Business & Information Technologies, the faculty member will undertake various responsibilities, including:
  • Delivering practical courses and laboratory sessions on campus that cover essential areas of Surface Mount Technology (SMT) manufacturing, through-hole soldering, hot-air rework, circuit board repair, Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design, and backend processes such as integrated circuit die attach and wire bonding, all within a cleanroom setting.
  • Facilitating training and educational opportunities tailored to microelectronics manufacturing career pathways, aiding students in securing internships and employment while enrolled in the program.
  • Collaborating with industry professionals to ensure course content remains relevant, gathering insights from internship supervisors, and updating students on current industry trends, including company profiles and job openings.
  • Managing the setup, operation, shutdown, and maintenance of all laboratory equipment and materials, including conducting live demonstrations for students, faculty, and external stakeholders.
  • Supervising students, student workers, and lab assistants during all laboratory activities.
  • Developing and revising laboratory operating procedures for equipment and materials.
  • Assessing student assignments, labs, and examinations through the Canvas platform, providing constructive feedback, and collecting data for ABET accreditation assessment.

Applicants should detail their approach to adopting teaching methodologies that foster learning and success for all students, both inside and outside the classroom. Additionally, please relate these methodologies to hands-on and career-oriented collegiate training and education.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:
  • Possession or pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Applied Science in a relevant field related to microelectronics manufacturing (e.g., Electrical, Mechanical, Technology, Industrial) along with three years of relevant work experience. Candidates currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree must enroll in at least six credit hours per semester within their major.
  • Demonstrated experience in hands-on processing within microelectronics manufacturing, covering multiple core areas such as:
    • SMT hand soldering, hot-air rework, and through-hole soldering
    • PCB repair, rework, testing, and troubleshooting
    • Ball Grid Array (BGA) rework
    • PCB design and prototyping
    • Cleanroom protocols for microelectronic packaging, including thermosonic wire bonding and die attach
    • Automated SMT operations and programming, including pick & place, solder paste printing, automated optical inspection (AOI), solder paste inspection, solder reflow, and x-ray microscopy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Office applications.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, with a capacity for rapid learning.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently, including teaching 3-4 classes per semester, maintaining course materials, and participating in campus and industry advisory committees.
  • Collaboration skills to work effectively with faculty, lab instructional assistants, and student workers across various class schedules.
  • Adaptability to multitask in a dynamic educational environment focused on career preparation.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Possession or pursuit of a Master’s degree in Engineering or Applied Science in a relevant field related to microelectronics manufacturing, along with three years of relevant work experience. Candidates pursuing a master’s degree must enroll in at least six credit hours per semester within their major.
  • Certification in J-STD-001 soldering.
  • Capability to design PCBs using Altium software.
  • Experience in programming microcontrollers, specifically Raspberry Pi RP2040.
