Job Summary

The City of New York is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Forensic Investigator to join our team in the Office of Chief Medical Examiner. As an Outreach Investigator, you will play a critical role in providing support to families and victims during times of need.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough investigations to locate potential next of kin, utilizing a variety of databases, social networks, and search engines.
  • Manage a list of assigned cases, ensuring all investigative steps are completed with accuracy and in a timely manner.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external agencies, as well as families and victims.
  • Assist families in determining final disposition and provide them with available resources as needed.
  • Maintain proficiency in our case management system and document all investigative steps in detail.
Requirements
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, with specialization in criminalistics, forensic science, chemistry, biology, physics, molecular genetics, genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, entomology, anthropology, ecology, or a closely related scientific or engineering field.
  • At least one year of satisfactory full-time experience in criminalistics, forensic science, or analytic chemistry, or a satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Skills
  • Ability to perform research independently.
  • Able to interact with bereaved family members in a compassionate manner.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent organizational skills and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Detailed oriented and ability to multitask.
  • A team player with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in investigative work.
Residency Requirement

New York City Residency is not required for this position.
