Job Description:

In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for ensuring the integrity and safety of Okaloosa County's highway infrastructure. As a skilled Bridge Maintenance Specialist, you will operate complex trucks and equipment to perform maintenance activities, including construction, repair, and replacement of bridges.

Responsibilities:
  • Drive and operate various vehicles and equipment, such as dump trucks, graders, bulldozers, and trenchers, in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Perform physical labor in the maintenance, restoration, or construction of roadways, drainage systems, and disposal sites.
  • Repair and replace wood bridges, including decking, stringers, caps, and rotten pilings.
  • Install and maintain storm water structures, such as dams, spillways, weirs, and culverts.
  • Operate heavy-duty drills, spray guns, concrete tools, chain saws, skill saws, grinders, torches, piling hammers, compactors, and shovels.
  • Cut trees, limbs, and shrubbery on right-of-ways or adjacent road and traffic areas.
  • Clear ditches, culverts, drains, gutters, and beaver dams.
Requirements:
  • A high school diploma or GED supplemented by six (6) months experience in the operation of light trucks and/or related light equipment.
  • The ability to read and interpret blueprints, construction plans, and as-built drawings.
  • A valid Class B commercial driver's license with air brakes.
  • Excellent physical stamina, as this position requires manual labor, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and climbing for prolonged periods.
Compensation:

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment with a competitive salary range of $17.07 - $18.77 per hour. The actual compensation package may vary based on qualifications and experience.
