Job OverviewWhittier Health Network is seeking a dedicated Phlebotomist to join our healthcare team. This role involves crucial responsibilities in the collection and management of blood samples and other specimens.
Key Responsibilities:- Identify optimal techniques for obtaining blood samples and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Ensure accuracy of test requisitions by cross-referencing with nursing logs and addressing any discrepancies with relevant personnel.
- Confirm patient identity and clearly explain the procedures involved in sample collection.
- Perform blood specimen collection through venipunctures and finger sticks.
- Uphold specimen integrity by adhering to aseptic techniques and departmental protocols.
- Document collected specimens meticulously, including initials, dates, and times, while maintaining daily collection records.
- Foster a safe and healthy work environment by complying with established standards and legal regulations.
- Maintain professional standards and adhere to institutional policies, as well as federal and state regulations.
- Provide reassurance to patients who may be anxious about the sampling process and apply appropriate dressings post-collection.
- Keep workspaces organized and clean to promote efficiency and safety.
- Proficient in venipuncture and blood collection techniques.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and compassion towards patients.
- Ability to analyze information and apply critical thinking to problem-solving.
- Knowledge of infection control practices.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certification in phlebotomy.
- First aid certification.
- Previous experience in a phlebotomy role is advantageous.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $35.00 per hour
Expected Hours: 10 – 20 per week
Schedule: Day shifts with rotating weekends.
