Job Overview

Position Summary:
As a Nocturnal Sleep Technologist, you will operate under the guidance of a Sleep Specialist or Medical Director. Your primary responsibility will be to execute various sleep assessments and observe patients throughout their sleep cycles. Your skills and meticulousness will play a crucial role in enhancing the well-being of individuals experiencing sleep-related challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Sleep Assessments: Administer overnight polysomnography (PSG) and home sleep apnea testing (HSAT) to gather and record physiological data during sleep.
  • Patient Preparation: Ready patients for sleep assessments by clarifying procedures, attaching necessary sensors and electrodes, and ensuring their comfort and safety during the process.
  • Monitoring: Vigilantly observe patients' sleep patterns, vital signs, and reactions to interventions throughout the sleep assessment, making immediate adjustments as required.
  • Data Collection: Precisely document and record data, including EEG, EKG, EOG, EMG, and respiratory metrics, to aid in the diagnosis and management of sleep disorders.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Ensure the proper upkeep and calibration of sleep monitoring devices, troubleshoot technical issues, and report any malfunctions for repair.
  • Patient Education: Inform patients about sleep disorders, available treatment options, and the use of prescribed devices, such as continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machines.
  • Data Analysis: Evaluate sleep assessment results, compile reports, and assist healthcare providers in making diagnostic and treatment recommendations.
  • Compliance and Quality Assurance: Ensure that sleep assessments comply with relevant regulations and standards, including those set by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM).
  • Patient Follow-up: Maintain ongoing communication with patients to track their progress, provide support, and address any concerns related to sleep therapy.
  • Documentation: Keep accurate and organized patient records, including assessment documentation, consent forms, and patient history.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred).
  • Certification as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) or equivalent sleep technology certification.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Prior experience as a Sleep Technician or in a related healthcare role is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting sleep monitoring equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of sleep disorders, diagnostic criteria, and treatment options.
  • Excellent attention to detail, observation skills, and the ability to work independently.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with patients, healthcare professionals, and colleagues.
  • Commitment to patient confidentiality and ethical standards.
  • Physical stamina to work overnight shifts and perform duties requiring frequent movement and positioning of patients. Ability to adapt to a changing work environment and stay updated on advancements in sleep medicine.
