We are seeking an experienced HVAC Technician II to join our team at Wayne State University. As a key member of our facilities operations team, you will be responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems, as well as performing planned corrective, preventive, and predictive maintenance tasks.
Key Responsibilities- Troubleshoot and repair HVAC equipment, including air handlers, fans, controls, dampers, VAV boxes, heating and cooling coils, ductwork, and distribution piping.
- Perform maintenance tasks on refrigeration systems, heat pump systems, hydronic boiler systems, steam boiler systems, and gas-fired heating equipment.
- Evaluate equipment conditions, standards, and codes to develop corrective and preventive maintenance tasks, replacement equipment, sub-assemblies, and components.
- Comply with environmental rules, regulations, and policies governing the safe handling of refrigerants, oils, solvents, etc.
- Adhere to Environmental, Health, and Safety rules, regulations, and policies, including personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
- High school completion (or GED) and graduation from a HVAC-related trade or vocational school, or completion of an apprenticeship in an allied trade.
- EPA 608 Universal CFC Refrigerants Training and Certification.
- Minimum 5 years of verifiable hands-on repair and installation experience in a commercial HVAC service environment.
- Ability to read, interpret, and understand system and equipment prints, layouts, ladder logic, picture diagrams, and exploded parts views.
- Ability to understand the sequence of operations of associated equipment and systems.
This position requires working in a normal office environment with varying working environments and possibly hazardous working conditions using appropriate safety precautions. The ability to lift, carry, or otherwise move and position objects and materials weighing up to 50lbs is required. Standing, walking, or otherwise moving about campus on a continuous basis is also required.
This position must be filled pursuant to the provisions of a collective bargaining agreement, and as such may be filled by a qualified bargaining unit member, should one apply.
