About the Role

We are seeking an Associate Mechanical Engineer to join our team at Consumers Energy. As a key member of our engineering team, you will assist in the development, design, and testing of new products or systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform thermodynamic calculations for the steam turbine cycle (Rankine Cycle), combustion turbines (Brayton Cycle), and unit heat rate.
  • Develop test procedures and perform performance testing of major power plant equipment such as gas turbines, steam turbines, fans, pumps, heat exchangers, condensers, cooling towers, evaporative coolers, boilers, and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems.
  • Perform heat rate studies and quantify sources of heat rate penalties.
  • Develop heat rate curves for unit dispatch.
  • Maintain and upgrade the On-Line Heat Rate power plant performance monitoring system.
  • Assist in the design, control, and implement mechanical systems and products.
  • Conduct field testing and troubleshooting of prototypes and final products.
  • Perform structural, thermal, fluid dynamic, and stress analyses using FEA and CFD tools under the supervision of senior engineers.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited university with applicable engineering work experience.
  • Or, Bachelor's degree in engineering from a non-ABET accredited university with a Professional Engineering license with applicable engineering work experience.
