About the Unit

Our 28-bed orthopedic unit at Dearborn Hospital is dedicated to providing exceptional care to adult patients with musculoskeletal problems that may require surgical intervention. Our interdisciplinary care team, including trauma mid-level providers, physical and occupational therapists, nursing assistants, and case managers, work collaboratively to deliver comprehensive care 24/7. We have 4 telemetry beds and are Joint Commission certified for hip and knee replacement surgery.

Scope of Work

The RN, under the ANA scope of practice, utilizes the nursing process to provide professional care by incorporating patient-family centered care principles. The RN assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and discharges patients, partnering with and utilizing patient/family input and goals in planning the plan of care. The RN develops teaching strategies for patient/family education and documents education and learning appropriately in the health record.

Qualifications
  • Associates in Nursing is required.
  • Bachelors in Nursing is required within 5 years.
  • Graduates from a non-accredited school of nursing must have at least one year of acute care experience or at least two years of experience in a licensed health care role and must have successfully passed the NCLEX licensure examination.
  • MI Registered Nurse (RN) is required.
  • AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) is required upon hire.
  • Specialty Certification is highly recommended within 2 years.
