Overview

The Lead Janitor plays a crucial role in overseeing the janitorial services and managing the assigned cleaning team. Key responsibilities include training staff, organizing work schedules, evaluating performance, addressing concerns, and resolving issues. The Lead Janitor is committed to maintaining a cleanliness standard of 95% across various tasks, including floor care, waste management, and thorough dusting procedures. Proficiency in using cleaning tools and products is essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and evaluate the janitorial staff during shifts to ensure adherence to safety and quality standards.
  • Assist the Project Manager in providing professional on-the-job training for cleaning personnel.
  • Perform various cleaning tasks such as sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, and maintaining floor conditions.
  • Ensure all cleaning equipment is maintained in good working order.
  • Understand and apply correct dilution rates for cleaning agents.
  • Follow all safety protocols and comply with regulations set by local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Make safety a priority in all decision-making processes.
  • Foster a respectful environment for all employees, clients, and vendors.
  • Communicate effectively with team members to ensure smooth transitions between shifts.
  • Manage supplies and ensure staff have the necessary tools to perform their duties.
  • Attend meetings and adhere to work schedules and attendance policies.
  • Provide support across all facility areas as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Supervisory Duties

The Lead Janitor is responsible for guiding the team to meet the standards set by Ahtna and government regulations.

Qualifications
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of two years of supervisory experience.
  • At least one year of experience in a housekeeping role or equivalent training.
  • Valid driver's license and proof of insurance required.
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and understanding English.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and safety practices.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must pass background checks and drug testing.
Preferred Skills
  • Familiarity with Alaska Native cultures.
