Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Utility Services Technician to join our team at St. Luke's Hospital. As a key member of our operating room team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth flow of sterile instruments and equipment from our Sterile Processing Department to the surgical suites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise the general flow of sterile instruments and equipment from SPD to the surgical suites
  • Order case carts from SPD via the computer and maintain par levels
  • Notify and coordinate with the Biomedical department as needed
  • Prepare schedules, pick lists, preference cards, and orders cases from SPD
  • Participate in review of OR schedule daily and identify potential conflicts or instrument/supply concerns
  • Coordinate daily flow sheet of instrumentation for completion of case carts
  • Requisition individual case carts via computer pick lists and preference cards for scheduled, urgent add-on, and emergency cases
  • Pick 'extra' or OR stocked instruments/supplies for case carts
  • Coordinate requests for instrumentation and equipment with other departments and campuses within the Network
  • Coordinate and receive inflow and outflow of outside vendor equipment and products
  • Communicate information to OR staff, care coordinators, and materials management personnel regarding supply changes, substitutions, etc.
  • Resource for OR clinical staff in locating or identifying OR instruments/supplies
Requirements
  • High school graduate/GED
  • Understanding and knowledge of OR environment/cases encouraged
  • Computer literate
  • Two years experience in the operating room required
Physical and Sensory Requirements
  • Ability to sit for 2 hours per day and up to 1 total consecutive hour
  • Ability to stand for 10 total hours per day and up to 8 total consecutive hours
  • Ability to walk 6 total hours per day and up to 10 total consecutive minutes
  • Ability to frequently use fingers/hands for fingering and handling
  • Ability to use upper extremities for frequent pushing of objects up to 10 pounds and occasional pushing of objects up to 75 pounds
  • Ability to transport patients weighing up to 250 pounds via wheelchair, stretcher, and/or bed
  • Ability for frequent stooping and bending
  • Ability for frequent reaching above the shoulder level
  • Ability for touching as it relates to feeling objects by touching with the skin, particularly that of fingertips
  • Ability to hear as it relates to normal conversation, high and low frequencies
  • Ability to see as it relates to general, near, far, color, and peripheral vision
