Job Summary

The Hotel Maintenance Engineer is responsible for ensuring the property is maintained in excellent condition at all times with minimal disruption to guests and employees.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance on hotel equipment, including air conditioning systems, boilers, and HVAC units.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on all equipment to prevent breakdowns and ensure optimal performance.
  • Take regular readings on equipment and record results for future reference.
  • Test and maintain swimming pools and spas to ensure they are safe and clean for guests.
  • Repair and replace light fixtures, switches, and receptacles as needed.
  • Perform furniture repair and maintenance to ensure a high level of quality and appearance.
  • Replace and repair pumps and plumbing fixtures to prevent leaks and ensure proper water flow.
  • Understand and apply local, state, and federal codes to ensure compliance and safety.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and repairing kitchen equipment to minimize downtime and ensure optimal performance.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs and maintenance activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management to ensure the smooth operation of the hotel.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and/or experience in a hotel or related field required.
  • At least one year of progressive experience in a hotel or related field preferred.
  • Trade school and/or college coursework in a related field helpful.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
  • Heavy work - exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects, materials, and equipment.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact with guests and employees in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize duties to meet deadlines and ensure efficient hotel operations.
  • Approach all encounters with guests and employees in an attentive, friendly, courteous, and service-oriented manner.
  • Attend all hotel required meetings and trainings to stay informed and up-to-date on hotel policies and procedures.
  • Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Highgate Hotel Standards, as required by scheduling, which will vary according to the needs of the hotel.
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, including wearing the proper uniform and nametag.
  • Comply with Highgate Hotel Standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
  • Maximize efforts towards productivity, identify problem areas, and assist in implementing solutions.
  • Effectively handle problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving problems as necessary.
  • Understand and apply complex information, data, etc. from various sources to meet appropriate objectives.
  • Cross-train in other hotel-related areas to increase knowledge and skills.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Show initiative, including anticipating guest or operational needs.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.
