Key Responsibilities
  • System Monitoring: Continuously monitor system software access, performance metrics, and resource utilization to ensure efficient operations.
  • Environment Maintenance: Take primary responsibility for the upkeep of the z/OS 2.3 and JES2 software environment.
  • Software Installation: Manage the installation of new z/OS releases (2.3, 2.4, 2.5) and configure them to meet organizational requirements.
  • Version Upgrades: Execute upgrades of z/OS versions from 2.3 to 2.5 and beyond, ensuring all systems are current.
  • z/VM Support: Upgrade z/VM and provide maintenance support from version 6.4 to the latest releases.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with application developers to mitigate any application-related issues that could impact production.
  • 24/7 Support: Provide round-the-clock software support to ensure system availability.
  • Application Development: Assist in the analysis, design, programming, and implementation of applications interfacing with system software.
  • Security Policies: Develop and maintain software usage and security authorization policies.
  • System Upgrades: Create, maintain, and enhance software systems for both development and production environments.
  • Requirements Analysis: Analyze requirements and recommend policies, procedures, and standards for software systems.
  • Backup Procedures: Implement and verify backup and recovery protocols, including business recovery considerations and testing.
  • Ownership: Accept full ownership of all mainframe systems, including multiple z/OS sysplexes.
  • System Reliability: Ensure that supported systems are up-to-date with the latest maintenance from IBM and maintain system reliability.
  • Operational Support: Provide level 1 operational support for z/VM and zLinux systems.
  • Problem Resolution: Address and resolve any system-related issues promptly and efficiently.
