About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Opto-Mechanical Engineer to join our Mechanical Engineering team at Magic Leap. As a key member of our Product Development and Engineering job family, you will be responsible for defining architectural concepts for future products and subsystems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead efforts across cross-functional teams to translate optical and perception requirements into physical hardware design proposals.
  • Examine trade-offs and drive solutions that optimize size, weight, power, and performance among competing requirements for compact imaging and display systems.
  • Collaborate with Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Calibration, and Perception teams to ensure our AR product and features provide a high-quality, immersive experience.
  • Design optomechanical components and subsystems within the Mechanical Engineering team.
  • Develop a deep understanding of optical and sensor KPIs and how they relate to the display product user experience.
Requirements
  • 10+ years of experience in design and development of optical products, preferably consumer products.
  • Master's Degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, or related engineering field.
  • Capable of developing concepts for fixtures, calibration equipment, or production components using 3D CAD.
  • Knowledge of color science, colorimetry, image quality metrics, and algorithms for digital image processing.
  • Experience with commercial optical design software tools and optomechanical design software.

Relocation assistance is offered for this role, and you will have the opportunity to work in our HQ in Plantation, FL or our Sunnyvale, CA office.
