Histology Technician Specialist

Job Summary

This is a challenging role that requires a high level of competency in performing various laboratory tests and procedures. The successful candidate will be responsible for receiving biological specimens, preparing samples for testing, and performing waived and moderately complex tests in an accurate and timely manner.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Test Performance

Perform all essential functions as defined by the department at a high level of competency. Conduct highly complex testing under supervision and ensure accuracy of test results.

Quality Control and Assurance

Recognize validity of abnormal patient and/or QC results and ensure accuracy of test results. Demonstrate appropriate resolution and follow through for problem solving identified during testing.

Inventory Management

Responsible for maintaining inventory and ordering of specific supplies in designated area. Identify opportunities for improvements in financial performance.

Training and Development

Self-directed and motivated to contribute to projects identified by the supervisor. Active in training of basic entry level functions and tasks. Competent on all essential functions.

Communication and Teamwork

Communicate professionally, courteously, effectively, and accurately with internal and external customers. Promote positive communications that enhance teamwork.

Requirements
  • High school diploma required. Ability to multi-task and cross-train in all areas of the Anatomic Pathology section.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills. Good organizational skills and basic computer skills required.
  • Good reading, writing, and math skills required.
