Payroll Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Payroll Specialist to join our team at The Action Group-HR. As a key member of our Human Resources department, you will be responsible for processing and maintaining payroll for our organization, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
Key Responsibilities- Process and maintain payroll for all employees, including full-time and part-time staff
- Prepare and transmit payroll information, including direct deposits and other related data
- Manage payroll spreadsheets and reconcile data to ensure accuracy
- Perform specialized technical payroll calculations, including gross pay, retirement, taxes, and contract calculations
- Manage garnishment deductions and payment activities
- Reconcile benefit spreadsheets and process vendor payments
- Answer inquiries and resolve payroll and benefit problems and discrepancies
- Work with Human Resources to confirm payroll-related information and determine deductions and benefits
- Prepare deposits for payroll, including direct deposit, voluntary retirement contributions, and taxes
- Prepare payroll journal entries for input into our system
- Review and analyze payroll data for accuracy and calculate earnings
- Process and prepare payroll checks and direct deposit advices and related monthly reports
- Responsible for quarterly payroll tax, quarterly unemployment records and reports, W-2 processing, and being the primary contact for payroll tax exceptions
- Responsible for surveys, payroll reporting to NCCCS, and other financial-related reports
- Ensure compliance and confidentiality with all policies and procedures of the College, NC Community College System, and applicable State and Federal agencies
- Knowledge of payroll practices and principles and their relationship to accounting requirements
- Laws, rules, regulations, policies, and practices applicable to the payroll function
- Principles and practices of PC's and related software
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Operate a PC and related software
- Maintain effective working relationships with other people
- Maintain payroll records
- Make arithmetic computations accurately and with reasonable speed
- Use sound judgment in handling payroll and personnel records and related issues
