About the Role

BNSF Railway is seeking a highly skilled Conductor Trainee to join our team in Rail Operations. As a Conductor Trainee, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient movement of freight across our vast network.

Key Responsibilities
  • Train Operation: Safely switch railcars and manage train movement, ensuring compliance with company and federal regulations.
  • Communication: Effectively communicate with colleagues and management through various communication devices, monitoring and reporting daily work.
  • Switching Functions: Operate track switches and derails to change train routing within yards or on road, checking switch points for proper alignment.
  • Train and Equipment Inspections: Conduct regular inspections of trains and equipment, observing and monitoring track conditions, and inspecting cars per federal regulations.
Working Conditions
  • Work in extreme all-weather conditions.
  • Walk and perform work on uneven surfaces.
  • Work in a safety-sensitive environment.
  • Exposure to loud noise and fumes.
  • Work on and around heavy and moving machinery.
Requirements
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to report for duty at the designated work location.
  • Able to work safely in extreme weather conditions.
  • Able to work the required shift/hours.
  • Able to meet the required travel requirements.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 80 pounds.
  • Ability to see, learn, and interpret hand signals from near and far.
