Role Summary:

The selected candidate will be tasked with ensuring the effective operation of manufacturing processes within our facility. Responsibilities include developing project plans, conducting utilization studies, identifying capacity requirements, and recommending enhancements. The role focuses on maximizing efficiency through the analysis of equipment layouts, workflows, assembly techniques, and workforce utilization. The engineer will determine necessary parts and tools to meet manufacturing objectives aligned with product specifications. A solid understanding of standard concepts, practices, and procedures in optics manufacturing is essential. Regular interaction with engineering teams, production support, and proactive communication with clients regarding project progress and issue resolution is expected. The engineer will also oversee the transition of manufacturing processes from engineering and prototype stages to full-scale production.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the RPO Product Development Cycle.
  • Collaborate with design engineering and production teams to strategize and execute prototype builds.
  • Review technical drawings for appropriate tolerancing.
  • Identify and coordinate the implementation of suitable tooling.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of build methodologies.
  • Develop testing protocols.
  • Evaluate testing outcomes, including optical and environmental performance metrics.
  • Assist in generating quotes.
  • Address production challenges in Cleanroom Assembly or Electro-Assembly as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate will be self-driven and capable of taking initiative with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in optical assembly methodologies is required.
  • Familiarity with prototype development, including interpreting technical drawings and creating work instructions.
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) principles is essential.
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling techniques, preferably Solidworks, or understanding of optical design modeling, such as Zemax.
  • Experience in customer interactions is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 standards is preferred.
  • Experience with ITAR regulations and compliance in optics, mechanics, quality assurance, and testing is advantageous.

Skills and Competencies:

Language Proficiency:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents. Effective communication skills with team members and management are essential.

Educational Background:

  • A Bachelor's degree is required, with a preference for optics or mechanical engineering.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Capability to apply advanced mathematical concepts.

Additional Requirements:

  • In accordance with ITAR, EAR, and other export compliance regulations, applicants must be U.S. Persons as defined by U.S. law.

Work Environment:

  • Regularly required to stand, use hands, and reach with arms. Frequent walking, stooping, kneeling, and talking is necessary.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and dexterity are essential.
  • Work may involve exposure to oils and solvents, and the environment is typically clean, requiring maintenance to uphold cleanliness standards.
  • Safety glasses are mandatory, and area-specific safety training may be required.
  • The role is situated in a manufacturing environment with potential exposure to loud noise and moving mechanical parts.
