Position Overview:

A respiratory care specialist is responsible for delivering and managing respiratory therapy services, including the administration of oxygen, therapeutic gases, and mist inhalation as per physician directives. This role encompasses comprehensive ventilator management, tracheostomy care, and various respiratory treatment modalities for residents.

Note: All personnel at Cascadia Healthcare must undergo and pass the facility's specific background check requirements before engaging with patients or residents.

Qualifications
Education:
  • Completion of an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program and certification as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). An Associate or Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Health Sciences or related fields is preferred.
Licenses/Certification:
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credentialed by the National Board for Respiratory Care.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in respiratory therapy.
  • Proficiency in tracheostomy care and ventilator management within skilled nursing, long-term acute care, or hospital environments.
  • Current CPR certification is required.
Experience:
  • Preferred experience of at least six months in a long-term care setting.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develops and implements a treatment plan with defined respiratory objectives tailored to the patient's capabilities and tolerance, under physician supervision.
  • Evaluates patient needs and adjusts care plans to achieve respiratory therapy goals.
  • Conducts non-invasive procedures, including CPAP and BIPAP therapies.
  • Provides education and guidance to staff on fundamental respiratory therapy techniques.
  • Engages in the diagnostic assessment, treatment, and management of abnormalities in the patient's cardiopulmonary system.
  • Collaborates with nursing staff to collect blood gas samples and perform basic analyses.
  • Works with interdisciplinary teams to establish and review patient care objectives.
  • Sets attainable and realistic goals for patients and residents.
  • Maintains documentation of patient conditions and progress in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Educates patients and their families on appropriate therapeutic methods.
  • Enhances patient functionality and skills by overseeing the screening of all residents.
  • Communicates effectively regarding patient status and needs with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Ensures punctuality and consistent attendance for assigned shifts.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Provides clinical supervision and consultation to Respiratory Therapy Assistants (RTA) within the facility.
  • Adheres to the standards outlined in the company's Code of Conduct, policies, procedures, and applicable federal and state regulations.
