GENERAL OVERVIEW:

The Radiologic Technology Student Intern is responsible for executing diagnostic x-ray examinations under the guidance of a licensed physician. This role utilizes x-ray technology and methodologies to aid in the assessment of patients' medical conditions across all age groups.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Embrace the mission, vision, and values of Bryan Health, consistently demonstrating our core principles.

2. Conduct various diagnostic x-ray examinations, including but not limited to radiography of the chest, limbs, skull, spine, and abdomen, while adhering to radiation safety protocols for patients and staff.

3. Employ sterile techniques as necessary.

4. Effectively position patients and select appropriate technical parameters to optimally display anatomical structures.

5. Proficiently operate all diagnostic x-ray machinery and associated systems, including EMR, PACS, and teleradiology.

6. Utilize departmental computer systems and electronic medical records to review patient histories and ensure accurate documentation of imaging studies.

7. Provide compassionate care to patients of all ages while maintaining confidentiality.

8. Coordinate imaging procedures within the department and with other departments to ensure timely and comprehensive patient care; communicate effectively with medical personnel, colleagues, patients, and their families.

9. Manage telephone inquiries related to scheduling and coordination with professionalism and accuracy.

10. Engage in the department's quality improvement initiatives as assigned.

11. Maintain and disinfect equipment as required, reporting any issues to the supervisor.

12. Ensure the work area is adequately stocked with necessary supplies.

13. Administer medications and biologicals relevant to job functions in accordance with established procedures.

14. Commit to ongoing professional development through workshops, seminars, and affiliations to stay current with industry advancements.

15. Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and projects as needed.

16. Perform additional related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Familiarity with computer hardware and software applications pertinent to job functions.

2. Understanding of radiologic positioning and technical factor application.

3. Awareness of federal and state regulations governing radiography.

4. Proficiency in operating radiologic equipment and related systems.

5. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

6. Ability to foster effective working relationships with diverse personnel and medical staff.

7. Capacity for independent problem-solving and critical thinking.

8. Commitment to maintaining confidentiality regarding sensitive information.

9. Skill in prioritizing tasks and working with minimal supervision.

10. Competence in caring for patients across the lifespan.

11. Ability to exercise analytical judgment in a clinical setting.

12. Professional demeanor and courtesy in all interactions.

13. Knowledge of proper body mechanics to ensure safety for oneself and patients.

14. Dependability in maintaining regular attendance.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Enrollment in an accredited radiologic technology program is mandatory. A valid Temporary State Medical Radiographer license is required.

CERTIFICATIONS:

Basic Life Support (CPR) certification is required. Bryan Health acknowledges certifications from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, and the Military Training Network.
