Job Title: Inspector I

Madison County, AL is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Inspector I to join our team.

Job Summary:

The Inspector I will be responsible for conducting field inspections to ensure compliance with approved plans and applicable codes, ordinances, policies, and other requirements. This includes inspecting roads, highways, residential and commercial developments, and stormwater systems. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and make decisions requiring independent judgment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct field inspections to ensure compliance with approved plans and applicable codes, ordinances, policies, and other requirements.
  • Inspect roads, highways, residential and commercial developments, and stormwater systems.
  • Confers with contractors to ensure conformance with approved plans and applicable codes, ordinances, policies, and other requirements.
  • Reviews plans for compliance with applicable codes, ordinances, policies, and other requirements.
  • Evaluate drainage issues and offer recommendations for consideration by the engineering team and/or the district offices.
  • Perform asphalt evaluations on existing county roads and document evaluations in electronic form using established criteria.
  • Inspect road construction or repair.
Requirements:
  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from a standard high school, including courses in mathematics, science, and mechanical drawing.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, maps, and specifications.
  • Some knowledge of construction, development, and other related principles and practices.
  • Ability to perform simple mathematical computations.
  • Experience in completing field inspection and related tasks required.
  • Must be physically capable of performing manual labor in adverse weather conditions.
  • Must be able to see well enough to operate motor vehicles, surveying equipment, and various computer/digital screens.
  • Must be able to hear well enough to communicate effectively to other workers and supervisors.
  • Must be physically capable of lifting 50 lbs.
