Job SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Mental Health Support Specialist to join our team at the Kem And Carolyn Gardner Mental Health Crisis Care Center.
In this critical position, you will work closely with our interdisciplinary treatment team to provide basic patient care needs, maintain a safe environment, and support the provision of therapy and recreational activities.
As a key member of our team, you will assist with admissions, orientations, and escorting patients to appointments while applying therapeutic interventions to ensure their safety and well-being.
Your expertise in providing a therapeutic milieu for patients, leading activity and conversation groups, and contributing to patient treatment planning will be invaluable assets to our team.
Responsibilities- Maintain a safe and hazard-free environment by observing and documenting patient behavior, conducting room searches, reporting unsafe conditions, and applying emotional and physical support as needed.
- Assist with patient admissions by gathering routine information for nursing assessment, searching patients and belongings for contraband, documenting belongings, and other necessary details.
- Orient patients and their families to the facility and its policies and procedures.
- Escort patients to off-unit appointments and activities using therapeutic interventions to ensure their safety and the safety of hospital staff and visitors.
- Contribute to the development of patient behavioral expectations and assist in the development of patient care plans.
- Participate in patient care team conferences by sharing observations of patient progress toward identified goals.
To be successful in this role, you will require:
- At least six months of experience in behavioral health or direct patient care, including roles such as CNA, MA, HCA, Teacher's aide, or assistant.
- A current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system (obtained within 30 days of hire).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to recognize when a patient is having an adverse reaction to medication and report it promptly to the Registered Nurse.
- An understanding of principles of group dynamics, crisis intervention, and the ability to assess patient status and provide care as outlined in departmental policies and procedures.
The estimated salary for this position is $52,400 - $63,500 per year, based on location and experience.
