Worldcoin is an innovative open-source protocol, backed by a diverse global community of developers, economists, and technologists dedicated to enhancing participation in and access to the global economy. The community is united by core principles that emphasize the intrinsic value and equality of every individual, the right to personal privacy, and the importance of open collaboration. These principles are reflected in the development of a public utility designed to connect everyone to the global economy.
The Worldcoin Foundation serves as the steward of this protocol, aiming to support and nurture the Worldcoin community until it achieves self-sufficiency. Tools for Humanity is a worldwide hardware and software development enterprise that played a pivotal role in launching Worldcoin and continues to provide essential support to the Foundation, in addition to managing the World App.
This role is with Tools for Humanity.About the Orb
The launch of Worldcoin necessitates a "Proof-of-Personhood" mechanism: a method to verify that an individual is human (not a bot) and has not previously claimed their complimentary share of Worldcoin. This led to the creation of the Orb.
The Orb is a sophisticated biometric imaging device, specifically designed for the launch of Worldcoin. These devices are deployed across a global network of operators who utilize them to onboard new Worldcoin users. During this process, the Orb captures an encoding of each user's iris and submits it to Worldcoin's backend. For further insights into how the Orb contributes to Worldcoin's privacy-preserving approach to Proof-of-Personhood, please refer to the Worldcoin whitepaper.
The Orb addresses a challenging combination of engineering and user experience hurdles, focusing on image quality, security, and user-friendliness. Each device features an advanced iris imaging system that operates effectively under various real-world lighting conditions. Additionally, a suite of sensors contributes to an onboard fraud detection system, allowing for use in unsecured environments. These technologies are integrated into a sleek industrial design with a straightforward, minimalist user interface.
About the TeamFor Worldcoin to successfully launch on a global scale, it is crucial to ensure fairness and build trust with users. Therefore, preventing fraud, safeguarding privacy, and ensuring system availability are essential.
Beyond standard company security, the objective at Worldcoin is to deploy an edge device in unsecured environments. We consider a broad spectrum of threats, including device tampering, spoofing, and backend attacks. The interdisciplinary nature of this team necessitates collaboration with various other teams across the organization, including Economics, AI, Backend, and Orb Software. As a member of a small security team, your contributions will have a significant impact.
About the OpportunityYour responsibilities will include:
- Conducting security-focused code reviews and managing the vulnerability management process.
- Providing support and consultation to Worldcoin teams regarding application security, including threat modeling and security assessments.
- Enhancing and evolving the secure application design process.
- Assisting teams in reproducing, triaging, and resolving application security vulnerabilities identified by internal tools and our bug bounty initiative.
- Developing and expanding the bug bounty program.
- Contributing to the creation of security processes and automated tools that mitigate various classes of security issues.
- 6+ years of technical experience, with a minimum of 3 years leading initiatives in Application Security.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Go, and Rust.
- Experience with Application Security Testing Tools, including SAST, DAST, IAST, or SCA.

- Understanding of AWS architecture and ecosystem.
- Knowledge of API security.

- Expertise in container security.
