The selected candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality medical care to the inmate population at the Scott County Jail. This role requires a skilled and compassionate nurse who can work effectively in a correctional setting.
Key Responsibilities- Provide medical care to inmates, including assessing health needs, developing treatment plans, and administering medications.
- Conduct health screenings and assessments to identify potential health problems and initiate medical screening as warranted.
- Review and assess prescribed medications brought in by inmates, and make arrangements for further healthcare as needed.
- Perform physical and mental health assessments, report findings, and initiate treatments as appropriate.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, and provide health education and discharge instructions to inmates.
- Participate in staff meetings and conferences to stay informed about trends in correctional health nursing.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A license to practice as a Registered Nurse issued by Minnesota or the ability to obtain one within three months.
- Experience working in a correctional or institutional setting, preferably with disease prevention and control, or mental health/psychiatric nursing.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with inmates, corrections staff, and other healthcare professionals.
Selection for this position will be based on a minimum qualifications screening and rating of training and experience. Top candidates will be invited to participate in an oral interview, background investigation, physical exam, drug testing, and psychological evaluation.
