Job Summary
The Surgical Technologist plays a vital role in the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System by preparing and maintaining medical equipment for surgical procedures. This position requires a high level of attention to detail and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Surgical Case Preparation
- Ensure that all necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies are provided for procedures and specialty areas.
- Maintain a well-organized sterile setup/field at all times to contribute to smooth operations.
- Anticipate and respond effectively to assignments in a timely and efficient manner.
- Follow proper sterile techniques and maintain a sterile field at all times.
- Assist the circulating RN with procedure/patient preparation.
- Have a working knowledge of autoclaves and select the proper sterilization method for instruments.
- Properly count instruments, sponges, and sharps.
- Accurately check instrumentation prior to procedure for proper functionality and maintain throughout procedure.
- Quality & Patient Safety
- Provide appropriate procedure supplies and equipment for age-specific needs within specified guidelines.
- Transport patients safely without delay.
- Assist in the positioning of patients.
- Follow recommended AORN guidelines at all times.
- Collaboration & Teamwork
- Anticipate the surgeon's needs by following case progress.
- Participate actively in departmental improvement activities and staff meetings.
- Assist the OR staff with room turnovers to help decrease turnover times.
- Respond to overhead pages in less than 3 minutes.
- Assist with clerical OR desk duties after hours by answering phones or messages.
- Other Duties as Assigned
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 1 year experience in OR
- Graduate of accredited Surgical Technologist program
- High School or equivalent and Graduate of Accredited Surgical Technology program or 1 year experience in OR
- Communication, Customer Service, computer Skills. Knowledge of medical terminology.
- BLS certification
