Position Overview:

As an Aerospace Safety and Reliability Specialist at Textron Aviation, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and reliability of our defense and special mission aircraft. Your expertise will contribute to the development and execution of programs that enhance the performance and safety of our aviation products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive aircraft-level Failure Mode, Effects & Criticality Analysis (FMECA) utilizing MIL-STD-1629 or a comparable methodology.
  • Perform safety analyses in accordance with 14 CFR Part for FAA/EASA type certification, applying SAE ARP4761/4754A and AC E standards.
  • Define and verify software/hardware development assurance level (DAL) requirements in compliance with DO-178 and DO-254.
  • Execute system safety hazard assessments following the MIL-STD-882E framework.
  • Establish and maintain a hazard tracking system that supports the MIL-STD-882E risk acceptance process.
  • Assist in achieving Military Airworthiness Certification per MIL-STD-516C, focusing on relevant chapters.
  • Independently conduct and document functional hazard assessments, system safety assessments, fault tree analyses, and common cause analyses.
  • Specify system safety requirements in product specifications, statements of work, and system engineering program plans.
  • Implement a hazardous materials management program in accordance with MIL-STD-882.
  • Utilize Reliability Workbench 12.0 for the creation and maintenance of fault tree models.

Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you should possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant technical experience in system safety and reliability.
  • Experience in proposal preparation and business capture for DOD and foreign military acquisition programs.
  • Familiarity with Continued Operational Safety processes as per 14 CFR Part 21.3.
  • Knowledge of environmental hazard and health hazard analyses.
  • Previous involvement with MIL-STD-882E tasks.
  • Ability to collaborate with FAA military certification offices and respond to military customer inquiries.
  • Proficiency in creating prediction models and conducting mathematical analyses to support product reliability, maintainability, and availability.
  • Familiarity with ejection seat systems and weapon employment systems.

Additional Skills:

  • Strong presentation skills for briefings to customers and senior management.
  • Ability to write, route, and release technical reports independently.
  • Competence in reading and understanding engineering reports, drawings, and electrical wiring diagrams.
  • Frequent interaction with internal and external customers on a technical level.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft desktop publishing applications.
