Overview:

Counselor III - IHOC is responsible for conducting culturally sensitive, trauma-informed treatment for individuals and families of all ages who have experienced or witnessed child maltreatment, domestic violence, and/or sexual assault in a multidisciplinary setting.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Provide in-home counseling on a weekly basis (or as scheduled depending on program requirements and family needs) for clients enrolled in the Family Preservation (FP) program.
  2. Utilize a strengths-based model to assess child and caregiver needs, including the completion of standard psychological assessments.
  3. Address child maltreatment risk factors and/or causes of identified child maltreatment and related attachment challenges.
  4. Design interventions to promote child safety and permanency, enhance caregiver capacity/protective factors, and build on strengths.
  5. Identify and respond to red flag issues and crises.
  6. Provide appropriate referrals and linkages.
  7. Advocate for children and families.
  8. Provide in-home skills building.
  9. Provide in-home individual and/or family therapy.
  10. Provide other services as required/suggested by the Clinical Supervisor.
  11. Attend required meetings and trainings, including MCPCs, CFTs, and other team case meetings.
  12. Provide up-front assessments as needed and provide required follow-up.
  13. Provide in-home parent training utilizing the Nurturing Parenting Program curriculum.
Qualifications:

Must possess a Master's Degree from an accredited institution in Social Work or Marriage and Family Therapy.

Must be a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, or Licensed Clinical Social Worker by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.

Must have completed or be willing to complete State Certification in Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault.

Must have completed training in Trauma-Informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Cognitive Processing Therapy.

Computer competency, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Experience with a database management system.

Must pass a criminal clearance background check, possess a valid CA driver's license, and up-to-date auto insurance.

Must be willing to work in client homes and to accommodate a flexible schedule (some evening and/or weekend hours may be needed).

Knowledge, Specialized Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to conduct a variety of standard psychological assessments upon receiving training.

Certification in the Nurturing Parenting Program or receive training from a certified trainer.

Prepare professional reports in a timely manner.

Establish mutually respectful relationships in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.

Exercise independent judgment and discretion.

Make diagnostic and intervention suggestions.

Triage or prioritize client problems.

Understand and adhere to professional ethics.

Analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action.

Determine appropriate courses of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals in interactions of a sensitive nature.

Interpret and evaluate descriptions and explanations of problems.

Analyze and define problems, draw valid conclusions, and project consequences of various alternative courses of action.

Speak effectively.

Write narrative reports.

Utilize supervision effectively.

Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals and organizations.

Requires working knowledge of the principles, practices, and trends in the fields of psychological assessment and counseling; crisis intervention techniques; etiology and treatment of abuse in families; specific counseling techniques used in the treatment of children and families and of those impacted by child maltreatment, and sexual and domestic violence; advocacy; community resources relating to client needs; and ability to work well with persons of varying economic levels, cultures, religions, ethnicities, and lifestyles.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

Work is performed in an office setting with a low-to-moderate noise level; employee will need to utilize their personal vehicle for travel to and from meetings outside the office; employee must regularly communicate by telephone, written communications, and in-person with staff, families served, partners, funders, and other professionals; occasionally lift, carry, and position objects weighing up to 20 pounds.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule:

This position is employed through The University Corporation (TUC).

The anticipated hiring range: $46.52/hour

Full Pay range: $46.52/hour

Time Base: Full-Time
