Pharmacy Automation Specialist

The Pharmacy Technician III, under general supervision of a pharmacist, performs advanced technical tasks within the pharmacy department. Based on area of assignment, elevated duties may include medication histories, inventory management, call center, and clinical pharmacy support. Demonstrates the ability to competently work in general and specialty areas of pharmacy practice.
Key Responsibilities:
- Fills and delivers/dispenses medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Performs advanced technical tasks in specialty areas such as medication histories, sterile and non-sterile preparation, payer adjudication, call center, clinical pharmacy support, inventory management including controlled substance handling and accountability, and repackaging. Uses appropriate systems for processing of patient information.
- Collaborate with pharmacy leadership, peers, nurses, and providers to improve patient outcomes and quality metrics in both general and specialized areas of pharmacy practice. Triages and escalates any questions or issues outside the pharmacy technician scope of practice to the staff pharmacist or supervisor as needed.
- Ensures adequate supplies are available for continuous patient care. Operates pharmacy equipment appropriately.
- Trains and precepts pharmacy technicians and students in areas of experience in accordance with training or course protocol.
- Post High School Diploma or Certificate Program Required
- Post High School Diploma or Certificate Program completion of a pharmacy technician training program, preferred
- 4-6 years Four (4) year of pharmacy technician experience in a healthcare or retail pharmacy setting Required
- CPHT-Certified Pharmacy Technician - PTCB - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Required
- PHAT-Licensed Pharmacy Technician - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies Required
- PBID-Pharmacy Based Immunization Delivery - ACPE-Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education Required
- BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required
- Ability to work as a team member
- Attention to detail
- Knowledge of basic and advanced pharmacy practices and procedures
- Project management and process improvement skills
- Mathematical computation skills
- Organization and communication skills
- Good typing, keyboarding and proofreading skills
- Ability to work independently within pharmacy scope of practice
- Knowledge of prescription processing and third-party billing, if applicable
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, preferred
- Proficiency with Epic, preferred
