Job Summary
The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Judicial Law Clerk to join our team in Charlottesville. As a Judicial Law Clerk, you will play a critical role in supporting the Court of Appeals of Virginia in its mission to provide fair and impartial justice to the citizens of Virginia.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare memoranda for the Judge by analyzing and summarizing briefs and case materials on appeal, including case documents and exhibits, trial transcripts, and related documents.
- Compose draft court orders for approval.
- Check citations and quote check appellate briefs and pleadings.
- Collaborate with other clerks and members of the court to resolve cases.
Requirements
- Graduation by spring 2025 from an ABA-accredited law school, or membership in good standing of the bar of the Supreme Court of Virginia or the highest court of another state.
- Prior legal or internship experience in criminal, civil, workers' compensation, and/or administrative agency law.
- Knowledge of the trial and appellate court procedures, systems, and rules utilized in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Proficiency in online legal research and communication.
- Organizational skills and attentiveness to detail.
- Ability to handle a high volume of materials while meeting critical deadlines.
