Qualifications:
1) A Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution in the United States, along with completion of a nutrition or dietetics program that meets national accreditation standards. Certification as a dietitian or nutrition professional in New York State is required upon meeting the necessary criteria. *Refer to Professional Licensure and Certification Requirements.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree is mandatory; a Master’s degree with a focus on nutrition is preferred from an accredited program.

Experience:
A minimum of one to three years of direct care experience, with one to two years in long-term care settings.

Licensure and Certification:
Certification in dietetics-nutrition in New York State, or successful completion of the Registered Dietitian examination by the Commission on Dietetic Registration, or the Certified Nutrition Specialist exam by the Certification Board for Nutrition Specialists is acceptable.

Key Responsibilities:
- Assess the nutritional status of residents, including analyzing laboratory data, fluid balance, and energy and protein requirements.
- Evaluate and interpret data, modify care plans, and deliver tailored nutrition care to residents.
- Provide nutrition-related information and technical assistance through meal rounds, test trays, menu evaluations, and other necessary services.
- Accurately assess, plan, and implement nutrition care for residents requiring enteral feeding.
- Prepare residents for self-management of their nutritional care.
- Assist in developing and implementing Quality Assurance and Improvement initiatives within the facility.
- Collaborate with the Food Service Director to create appropriate therapeutic diets.
- Make referrals to other healthcare professionals as needed.
- Complete additional duties to support departmental operations as assigned.
- Participate in inspections conducted by authorized agencies.

Professional Conduct:
Maintain a high standard of resident nutritional care, demonstrating knowledge and competency in nutritional interventions as per physician/NP orders, adhering to established standards and policies. Stay updated with new standards and incorporate them into practice throughout the continuum of care.

Foster positive interpersonal relationships with colleagues and assist co-workers as necessary. Exhibit professional behavior through cooperative interactions and take personal responsibility for actions. Report any changes in resident conditions or care issues to the appropriate nursing supervisor.
