Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with a team to design, prototype, and test innovative interrupters that comply with switchgear specifications and industry standards, while proposing design elements with potential for intellectual property protection.
  • Conduct rapid design-build-test cycles utilizing prototype materials such as stainless steel, copper alloys, and ceramics.
  • Develop and manage relationships with internal and external suppliers to ensure robust fabrication and cleaning processes for components.
  • Document and specify mechanical and manufacturing details from concept through to production stability.
  • Oversee and report on testing programs to validate the mechanical and electrical integrity of designs.
  • Enhance the capabilities of the development laboratories.
  • Support the ongoing production of vacuum interrupters, collaborating with quality control to resolve production challenges.
  • Lead investigations to identify root causes of design performance issues using formal problem-solving methodologies.
  • Approach assignments with a proactive attitude and a sense of urgency.
Qualifications:

To qualify for this position, candidates must possess:
  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering Physics, Aerospace Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience with high vacuum systems, including pumps, gauges, brazing, and critical parts cleaning. Familiarity with vacuum interrupters and high voltage breakdown is preferred but not mandatory.
  • A minimum of 5 years of independent work experience in product development or research, contributing to multidisciplinary teams.
  • A proven history of significant contributions to new product development or research initiatives.
  • Advanced proficiency in software tools such as 3D CAD, engineering drawings, Excel, and statistical analysis tools like Minitab.
Relevant Experience: At least five years of experience applying vacuum system principles to product development or research, including designing assemblies, prototyping, parts fabrication, critical cleaning, and developing customized testing programs.
