Graduate Engineering Internship Opportunity at Mayo Clinic

Mayo Clinic is seeking a highly motivated graduate student in engineering or materials science to assist with process development and optimization for the fabrication of medical microdevices. The successful candidate will work in a team environment, but with a large degree of autonomy, and will be responsible for learning the procedures and processes of the Division of Engineering and the assigned work unit.
Responsibilities
The primary purpose of the Graduate Engineer Internship is to provide a graduate student with relevant engineering experiences. The intern will be given selected engineering work assignments to reinforce the learning experience and to provide benefit to the work unit. These assignments may include designing components, developing a project strategy, gathering user needs, requirements and specifications, evaluating commercial components, assembling prototype systems, performing design verification and design validation, troubleshooting, and participating in design reviews. All assignments are within the context of the Division of Engineering Quality Management System (including safety risk management) and are performed in a multi-disciplinary development environment.
Qualifications
The incumbent must have received a bachelor of science in engineering or material science from an accredited college or university and be enrolled in or intending to enroll in a graduate degree program. The candidate will have completed at least one year of coursework in a Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science Master's or Doctoral Degree program. Demonstrated strong analytical and communication skills – both verbal and written. Additional qualifications include education, experience, and interest in medical device development, microfabrication, and process development, as well as completion of one or more classes in microfabrication or MEMS with cleanroom experience.
