Phlebotomy Specialist

The Phlebotomist is responsible for drawing blood from patients or donors of all ages in hospitals, clinics, blood banks, or similar facilities for analysis or other medical purposes.
Job Summary:This is a full-time opportunity for a Phlebotomist to join our team at Amergis. As a Phlebotomist, you will be responsible for assembling equipment, verifying patient identity, and explaining procedures to patients or donors. You will also be responsible for applying tourniquets, locating accessible veins, and inserting needles to draw blood into collection tubes or bags.
Responsibilities:- Assemble equipment, such as tourniquets, needles, and disposable containers for sharps, blood collection devices, gauze, cotton, and alcohol on work tray, according to requirements for specified tests or procedures
- Verify identity of patient or donor
- Converse with patient or donor and explain procedure
- Apply tourniquet to arm, locate accessible vein, swab puncture area with antiseptic, and insert needle into vein to draw blood into collection tube or bag
- Knowledgeable in selection of appropriate collection devices, tubes, and gauges
- Withdraw needle, apply treatment to puncture site, and label and store blood container for subsequent processing
- High School diploma or its equivalent
- Successful completion of Phlebotomist training with subsequent certification (if applicable) as a Phlebotomist
- Minimum of one year relevant experience preferred
- Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
- Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable
- Current CPR if applicable
- TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
- Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
- Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements
- Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
- Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
- Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required
- Computer proficiency required
- Must be at least 18 years of age
