Job Summary

As a Flight Nurse with Mercy Flight Central, you will utilize your ICU/ED experience to perform clinical duties in accordance with company standards and Department of Health regulations. Your responsibilities will include participating in shift crew briefings, maintaining proficiency in company training programs, and performing pre and post-flight aircraft inspections.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in shift crew briefings
  • Maintain proficiency in company training programs
  • Perform pre and post-flight aircraft inspections
  • Perform patient care according to company standards and NYSDOH guidelines
  • Complete annual clinical requirements
  • Perform general housekeeping duties
  • Participate in company Quality Management program
  • 100% attendance at company meetings
  • 100% adherence to quarterly skills requirement

Requirements:

  • Minimum three years ED or ICU experience
  • Certified Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN) within one year of hire
  • Maintain proficiency and currency according to the standards of American Heart Association, American College of Surgeons, American College of Emergency Physicians, American Academy of Pediatrics, and New York State Department of Health
  • Possess and maintain certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider, and Neonatal Resuscitation Program
  • Possess and maintain certification in National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses
  • Maintain License/Proficiency according to state and local standards

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time in uncomfortable conditions
  • Must be able to regularly stand; walk; sit; use hands; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk or hear
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus, and ability to see color
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. unaided
  • Must be physically able to crawl in and out of the aircraft unaided, walk at least 1⁄4 mile carrying 50 lbs. of equipment, and must be able to securely fasten all required aircraft restraints

Scope of Practice:

Upon completion of training, and with on-line medical control for scene calls, advanced procedures for all patient populations may be performed. These skills include, but are not limited to, RSI, endotracheal intubation, supraglottic airway, surgical airway, needle crics, NG/OG insertion, pericardiocentesis, chest decompression, ventilator management, IV, IO, blood administration, Foley insertion, and central line maintenance.
