Position Overview


The Clinical Nutrition Specialist operates under close supervision, delivering tailored medical nutrition therapy for patients and residents within the healthcare system.

This role is essential in conducting assessments of patients and monitoring their progress to evaluate the effectiveness of nutrition interventions, ultimately aiming to enhance health outcomes.



Key Responsibilities
  • Conducts comprehensive nutritional assessments and accurately documents findings utilizing the Nutrition Care Process.
  • Applies the principles of the Nutrition Focused Physical Exam to detect malnutrition and/or micronutrient deficiencies.
  • Utilizes order-writing privileges to initiate and manage nutrition support, serving as a valuable resource for departmental and organizational staff.
  • Mentors dietetic interns and nutrition students, fostering their professional development.
  • Engages in quality improvement initiatives within the clinical nutrition team and fulfills annual requirements for Registered Dietitian status.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.


Qualifications


Education: Required: Bachelor’s degree in nutrition or a related discipline.

Experience: Required: 0-1 years in clinical nutrition following pre-professional experience.

Licensure/Certification: Required:
- BLS (CPR) certification from the American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider.
- Certification as a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist (RDN) issued by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
- Licensure as a Dietitian/Nutritionist from the North Carolina Board of Dietetics/Nutrition (NCBDN) or completion of an accredited Supervised Practice Program.

Additionally, a provisional license from the NCBDN must be obtained prior to commencing employment, alongside the original verification statement. The candidate must achieve full registration and licensure within six months of employment.

Preferred: Cortrak certification.
