The Patient Service Specialist I plays a crucial role in the administration team, ensuring efficient daily operations within the healthcare practice.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage incoming calls and direct them appropriately; take messages and ensure follow-up with the relevant physician or staff member.
- Provide routine information to callers while adhering to authorized medical advice protocols.
- Deliver exceptional customer service to both new and existing patients.
- Create patient cases and accurately document communications in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
- Schedule patient appointments and necessary tests as requested.
- Register patients in the EMR, verifying demographic information and collecting accurate health insurance details.
- Conduct eligibility checks to confirm insurance accuracy.
- Collect required co-pays and any outstanding balances from patients.
- Follow scheduling guidelines to direct patient visits to other practices as needed.
- Engage in pre-visit planning for upcoming appointments, including insurance eligibility verification.
- Obtain prior authorizations and insurance referrals as required.
- Perform outreach to designated patient groups for care and quality measurement.
- Schedule specialty appointments and testing as necessary.
- Handle administrative tasks related to revenue cycle management.
- Maintain discretion to ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated excellence in customer service.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- One to three years of experience as a medical secretary is preferred.
- Familiarity with EMR systems is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
