Attorney III

The City of Jacksonville, FL is seeking a highly skilled Attorney III to join our team. As a key member of our legal department, you will provide expert legal advice and support to various clients and stakeholders.

The Attorney III will be responsible for providing legal support to various clients regarding contracts, government operations, and other transactional matters. This includes intense negotiating and drafting contracts, real estate and finance documents, interlocal agreements, legal opinions, resolutions, ordinances, and other legal documents.

• Provide legal support to various clients regarding contracts, government operations, and other transactional matters.
• Negotiate and draft contracts, real estate and finance documents, interlocal agreements, legal opinions, resolutions, ordinances, and other legal documents.
• Interpret and apply legal principles and precedents in resolving complex legal issues.
• Conduct research on complex legal issues and prepare related legal opinions.
• Prepare proposed legislation and make recommendations to repeal, amend, or revise existing laws.
• Advises clients on legal matters.
• Represents the Office of General Counsel (OGC) in hearings and at various internal board hearings and appeals.
• Attends meetings of the City Council, boards, agencies, and OGC clients.

• Graduation from an accredited law school.
• Possession of a Florida license to practice law.
• Seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in the practice of law.
• Professional legal experience in government is preferred.

• Experience practicing law in a government agency.
• Experience in security law and municipal finance.
• Experience providing legal advice or guidance to Boards or Commissions.
• Experience with sunshine laws, Chapter 286, Florida Statutes or public records laws, Chapter 119, Florida Statutes.
• Experience with ethics laws, Chapter 112, Florida Statutes.
• Experience with government purchasing.
