Job Overview

Systems Engineer (Hybrid)

We are seeking a qualified contract Systems Engineer to contribute to a prominent global mass media and entertainment organization. The Systems Engineer will play a pivotal role in supporting essential merchandise systems applications and strategic initiatives within the merchandise division.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead projects in collaboration with Merchandise Planners, Technical Partners, and Business Leaders to establish a prioritized development agenda.
  • Translate business requirements into clear and actionable product specifications to facilitate engineering development.
  • Provide guidance and accountability to engineering teams for both new and existing retail application configurations.
  • Design automated workflows and decision-making processes utilizing tools such as VBA, Python, or similar scripting languages.
  • Troubleshoot and conduct root cause analysis within the data pipeline, configuration, and packaged retail applications.
  • Create executive summary presentations to support business recommendations and communicate project progress to stakeholders.
  • Engage with users and partners to address issues, provide updates, and ensure compliance.
  • Manage a queue of enhancements, inquiries, and issues effectively.
  • Oversee system installations, including configurations, testing, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Identify potential risks and integrate solutions to maintain budget and timeline adherence.

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field; MBA preferred or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in retail system administration, with a focus on configuration and technology implementation in retail applications.
  • Familiarity with data pipeline technologies and ETL tools such as SQL, SSIS, Knime, Alteryx, and Tableau Prep.
  • Experience with database and workflow technologies, including Snowflake, SQL Server, and MS Access.
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools such as Tableau, Microstrategy, Power BI, and Business Objects.
  • Knowledge of development tools like MS SharePoint, MS Excel, MS Access, and VBA.
  • Experience with software development tools such as JavaScript, Java, SQL, Python, and VBA is desirable.
  • Experience with various project management methodologies, including waterfall, agile, and scrum.
