Surgical Technology Preceptor

The Clinical Preceptor for Surgical Technology serves as a clinical resource for students, providing on-site supervision and assessment while students perform clinical tasks. This role requires a strong understanding of the program's curriculum and a commitment to connecting classroom and clinical areas.
Key Responsibilities:
On-site supervision and assessment of students
Management of student progress on assignments
Validation of student completed case assignments
Communication of student compliance and work back to the faculty member
Assessment of student compliance
Facilitation of student orientation to the facility
Demonstration of understanding and upholding of Southeastern College and program policies and procedures
Evaluation and grading of students' class work, laboratory, and clinic work, assignments, and papers
Requirements:
Associate's degree
Four years of in-field experience
CST Certification
Work Environment:
This position works in an environment with moderate noise levels. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and occasionally works in high precarious places. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, risk of electrical shock, and risk of radiation.
Physical Demands:
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee is regularly required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and frequently required to walk, talk, or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, taste or smell.
Education and Experience:
The Preceptor for Surgical Technology must have an Associate's degree and four years of in-field experience. The Preceptor must be CST Certified.
Language, Math, and Reasoning Ability:
The employee must be able to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals. The employee must be able to write reports and correspondence, speak effectively before groups of customers or employees, and add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure. The employee must be able to compute rate, ratio, and percent and draw and interpret bar graphs. The employee must be able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
