Job Description

The Asheville Machinist role involves the manufacturing of complex rotating jet engine components, working with unique aerospace alloys on some of the latest CNC machine tools in a clean, air-conditioned facility.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manufacturing Complex Components: Create hardware with tight tolerances and fine finishes involving the use of complex measuring devices such as micrometers, calipers, indicators, and special-purpose gages.
  • Operate CNC Machines: Run multiple machines, following work instructions, planning, drawings, and other relevant documents.
  • Team Collaboration: Participate as a team to identify and implement process improvement opportunities resulting in improvements in safety, quality, delivery, cost, and human development.
  • Quality Control: Ability to read, understand, and follow process operation sheets, tooling sheets, tech plans, and associated documents.
  • Measuring and Recording: Utilize measuring equipment, such as micrometers, calipers, and gages, and record accurate measurements and dimensions.
  • Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Perform preventative maintenance checks on machines and fix issues as needed.
  • Training and Development: Successfully complete operator certification requirements, including the Characteristics Verification Process, and applicable GE certifications.
  • Communication and Teamwork: Understand part process flow, keep open lines of communication with production schedulers, and participate in daily team meetings and activities.
Requirements:
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Experience: One year of experience working from detailed instructions and planning, reading simple blueprints, and using precision measuring instruments.
  • Certifications: One-year machining certificate or two years of machining experience.
  • Skills: Ability to read a machine program, learn to prove out a new part program or process, and perform tasks that require manual dexterity.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work all shifts on a temporary basis to meet business needs.
  • Leadership and Organizational Skills: Demonstrated ability to balance multiple priorities and participate in improvement events and activities.
  • Training and Development: Willingness to train other machinists and cross-train when needed.
