As a Sales Associate - Electronics Specialist at Navy Exchange, you will be responsible for selling electrical and electronic merchandise to customers using salesmanship and in-depth knowledge of merchandise. You will explain technical or artistic functionality of specialized household merchandise and provide full range of customer service functions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
You will be authorized to sell electronic goods at Class I and Class II stores only. Your duties will include selling electronic goods where technical knowledge is required, such as home entertainment systems, surround sound systems, Plasma LCD HDTV, personal computers, PCs, DVD players, cameras, camcorders, MP3 players, etc. You will also provide instructions and assist customers with various types of basic computer problems, such as system and equipment compatibility. You will listen to the needs of the customer to inform them of specific functionality of merchandise and utilize skills and knowledge to interest the customer in purchasing products. You will explain, recommend, and demonstrate various computer and audio video merchandise and in-home installation services to customers to make buying decisions. You will describe product features, demonstrate its use, and explain the difference between various product models. You will assist the department manager in arranging space on the sales floor, setting up promotional fixtures, and displaying promotional merchandise. You will count promotional items before and after promotional events to determine quantities sold. You will inspect returned computers, components, and audio video merchandise for proper operation for return to stock and resale. You will ensure equipment returns are complete. You may be assigned to more than one selling center counter, may operate a cash register or other sales-related equipment, and verify and accept cash, credit card, checks, etc. You will practice loss prevention procedures and perform other related retail sales duties. You may train other sales associates on the features and functionality of electronic products. This position is represented by the American Federation of Government Employees Local 22.
Qualifications:
You must have one year of responsible experience in clerical office or retail sales store work of any kind, demonstrating the ability to perform satisfactorily in the position to be filled. You must also have 18 months of progressively responsible experience in retail sales performing the kind of duties which constitute the principal work of the position to be filled and possess technical knowledge of computers and electronics, i.e., computers, cameras, video and audio equipment, stereo equipment, TVs, DVDs, etc. as it relates to quality similarities and differences. Study completed in a college, university, junior college, technical school, or other comparable institution above the high school level may be substituted on the basis of one-half academic year of study for 6 months of experience, provided such subjects relating to computers, home electronic sales and or repair, photography, etc. At any level, specialized experience may be substituted for required general experience.
