Job Title: Pipefitter Journeyman

Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Pipefitter Journeyman to join our team at Continental Maritime of San Diego. The successful candidate will be responsible for the removal, installation, and maintenance of piping systems on various types of ships and vessels.

Key Responsibilities:
• Remove and install piping systems, including cutting, grinding, and prepping multiple sizes and material types of pipe.
• Read and understand blueprints, diagrams, and sketches, and have an understanding of different joint designs IAW with MIL-STD-22D.
• Obtain a Silver Braze certification and have general knowledge of the hazards associated with opening tanks and voids, including the installation of proper blanks and plugs to obtain Gas Free status.
• Accomplish all required testing (hydrostatic, operational, etc.) IAW shipboard procedures.

Requirements:
• Ability to read and understand basic work specs, drawings, and diagrams.
• Demonstrated knowledge of shipboard piping systems.
• Understands shipboard terminology utilizing MIL-SPEC and NAVSEA references.
• Demonstrated understanding of basic reading and mathematics is required for fit-up, lay-out, and fabrication of piping systems.
• Demonstrated ability to identify multiple types of fittings, and what they are used for.
• Demonstrated ability to identify different piping systems based off of abbreviations commonly used onboard the ship.
• Demonstrated understanding of TAC numbers used to identify locations throughout the ship.
• Maintains a silver braze qualification for CuNi (copper-nickel) piping systems onboard ships.
• Maintains fire-watch qualification.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience is required.
• Must be able to work any shift.
• The ability to obtain a DBIDS credential is required.

Work Environment:
Most work is performed aboard ships or in industrial conditions. Shop, shipboard, warehouse, industrial environment.
May be exposed to fumes and irritants including welding/burning fumes, paints, oils, greases and various cleaning solutions and solvents, noise, high heat and humidity hazards while wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Frequently moves throughout the shipyard.
Works at heights and in confined spaces.
Must be able to ascend/descend stairs/ladders/ramps, aboard ships in shipyards under industrial conditions and in confined spaces.
Must be able to move heavy equipment and boxes, weighing up to 40 pounds.
May be exposed to rapid changes in microclimates, industrial processes, and other environmental factors while collecting data, providing direction, and observing performance of task teams.
