Position Overview

The Maternal-Fetal Safety Registered Nurse collaborates closely with the clinical team to enhance the monitoring of fetal patterns and facilitate the early detection and escalation of concerning fetal tracings alongside maternal hemodynamic and laboratory indicators.

Key Responsibilities

  • Continuously monitors the alert dashboard for any abnormal vital signs (VS) that align with maternal early warning criteria and fetal heart rate (FHR) patterns.
  • Evaluates and accurately interprets FHR patterns associated with category II and III alerts, identifying specific metrics that necessitate further action. Assesses baseline FHR, FHR variability, and deceleration patterns, while tracking the duration of FHR patterns in alert status.
  • Reviews nursing documentation to ensure that the registered nurse is executing appropriate interventions or alerts the RN when FHR tracings require additional bedside assessment, intervention, or provider notification.
  • Identifies maternal vital signs that meet maternal early warning criteria, along with their trends and durations. Reviews nursing documentation to confirm that the RN is undertaking suitable interventions or notifies the RN when maternal VS require further bedside evaluation, intervention, rapid response team engagement, or provider notification.
  • Engages the hospital's chain of command promptly in response to critical patient conditions that demand immediate clinician intervention.
  • Monitors laboratory and diagnostic results, notifying the primary RN and/or providers of findings that necessitate further consultation and/or intervention.
  • Performs all other assigned duties as required.

Qualifications

Required

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
  • Currently eligible to practice in the state of Georgia.

Preferred

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Experience

  • A minimum of two years of experience in labor and delivery nursing.

Skills/Certifications/Licenses

  • Completion of the AWHONN advanced fetal monitoring course every two years and intermediate fetal monitoring alternating every two years.
  • Must possess certification through NCC as RNC-EFM or obtain it within six months of hire.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
