Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled HVAC Journeyman to join our team at the Fort Worth Independent School District. As a key member of our facilities maintenance team, you will be responsible for inspecting, repairing, installing, and maintaining hydronic heating, refrigeration, chilled water air conditioning, ventilation, and HVAC controls, equipment, and systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintenance & Repair: Services, installs, and maintains chilled water systems, boiler systems, and associated equipment such as pumps, air handlers, cooling towers, radiators, air compressors, and controls.
  • Determines the amount and type of material needed for repair or modification of air and water delivery and temperature-control systems.
  • Investigates, troubleshoots, and spot checks HVAC systems.
  • Recommends modifications that will improve system energy and performance characteristics.
  • Performs air and water balance tests for HVAC installations on new and remodeled District buildings when required.
  • Coordinates HVAC systems repairs with appropriate personnel, as necessary.
  • Completes necessary work according to instructions and uses accepted trade practices in accordance with local codes.
  • Maintains refrigerant logs, start-up and preventative maintenance logs, and work orders.
  • Operates service vehicles with auto or manual transmission, tow and back trailers; rigs heavy equipment for lifting; transports equipment safely.
  • Responds to emergency calls as needed, including after hours and/or weekends.
Requirements
  • Education: Accredited High School diploma, GED, or Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency required; Associate's degree from accredited college or university in HVAC preferred.
  • Certification/License: Clear and valid Texas Driver's License required; Insurable by the District's insurance carrier required; CFC/EPA Universal certification for refrigerant required; Maintenance electrician license preferred; HVAC certificate from an accredited trade school or college preferred.
  • Experience: 5-7 years' chilled water applications experience required; 7 years' experience required if no certificate; Experience as an Electrician Journeyman preferred; Experience with commercial systems preferred.
Working Conditions

This position requires frequent travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required. The employee must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent interruptions, and may require occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours and/or change in shift schedule with little or no advance notice.

The employee must be able to lift and carry heavy equipment and tools, and work at heights up to 30' above ground. The employee must also be able to work in tight or enclosed spaces, including under buildings, in crawl spaces, and areas that may contain insects and animals.

The employee must be able to maintain emotional control under stress and work with frequent interruptions. The employee must also be able to communicate effectively, both orally and written, and engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
