The role of the Patient Access Representative/Medical Assistant involves managing appointment scheduling and performing medical assistant duties within a clinical environment.

Key Responsibilities

This position is crucial in delivering personalized, direct patient care to assigned individuals under the guidance of a licensed healthcare professional. Responsibilities include:

  • Providing exceptional customer service to patients, families, and visitors.
  • Ensuring the completion and accuracy of all necessary patient documentation.
  • Inputting patient and guarantor demographic and financial details efficiently, while explaining insurance benefits and collecting payments.
  • Conducting vital signs assessments and gathering medical histories.
  • Preparing patients for examinations by explaining procedures and addressing any inquiries.
  • Managing appointment scheduling and rescheduling, including transferring patients to appropriate departments.
  • Adapting communication and behavior to meet the needs of diverse patient populations.
Qualifications

Education:
Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred: Completion of a Medical Assistant training program.

Experience:
Preferred: Relevant experience in a clinical or medical office setting.

Certifications:
Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
Preferred: Certifications such as Healthcare Access Manager (CHAM), Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA), or Medical Assistant certification.

Skills and Abilities

Candidates must possess:

  • Proficiency in computer applications and data entry.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to collaborate with various departments.
  • Sound judgment in managing challenging situations.
