Lead Estimator

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Estimator to join our team at W. L. Gary Company, a leading Mechanical Contractor in Washington DC. As a key member of our leadership team, you will play a crucial role in driving our growth plan forward.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the Chief Estimator to determine which projects to bid
  • Build strong relationships with customers, including General Contractors, owners, and engineers
  • Develop accurate estimates for the Construction Department
  • Negotiate projects with customers and prepare budgets for awarded projects
  • Review contract documents to identify scope gaps and inaccuracies
  • Make deals with subcontractors and vendors
  • Prepare folders with current documents for the project management team
  • Assist the Estimator with the turnover process to the Project Management team
  • Review contracts and report to leadership on estimating-related matters
  • Maintain connections with the project management team to learn from successes and mistakes
  • Attend customer, subcontractor, and vendor meet-and-greet events
  • Develop and implement new estimating processes to improve accuracy and speed
  • Oversee the process for Turnover Meeting #1 on projects to the PM Team
  • Track Construction Estimates by category and report on KPIs for estimating
  • Work with the Construction Field Operations Manager and VP of Construction on manpower projections
  • Partner with the Leadership Team to create Company Goals that support our Purpose and Mission
  • Create and implement the strategy to support Estimating's contribution to obtaining Company Goals
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate Estimating Department staff
Requirements:
  • 8-10 years of experience in mechanical or construction estimating, including proposal development and general familiarity with the bid process
  • Ability to analyze specifications, plans, and create material takeoffs from drawings while considering project costs and site requirements
  • Experience in construction and/or mechanical contracting, with HVAC and/or plumbing contracting experience a plus
  • Experience using estimating software
  • Exceptional time management skills and comfort working on multiple projects simultaneously

We offer a competitive annual base salary between $150,000 and $160,000 (depending on experience) with an exceptional benefits package, including 401(k) employer match, paid health insurance, and generous paid time off.
