Job Title: Attorney II

The City of New York is seeking a highly skilled Attorney II to join the Office of Legal Affairs. As a key member of the Support and Lien Recovery Litigation Unit, you will provide legal assistance to various program areas within the Department of Social Services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide legal research and analysis to support the delivery of social services
  • Draft and review legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and contracts
  • Represent the Commissioner in judicial proceedings, including trials and hearings
  • Negotiate on behalf of the Agency to obtain contracts and settlements
  • Provide guidance and training to other attorney staff members and support staff
Requirements:
  • Admission to the New York State Bar
  • One year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar
  • Strong oral and written advocacy skills
  • Knowledge of proper courtroom etiquette, family law, estate law, and civil procedure
Preferred Skills:
  • Superior legal research and writing ability
  • Time management discipline
  • Prior experience as a supervisor or mentor
