Position Summary:

The Facilities Operations Specialist plays a crucial role in the daily upkeep of all facilities and animal habitats across multiple sites. This position involves planning, executing, and overseeing ongoing preventive maintenance and repair tasks on mechanical, electrical, and other installed systems. The specialist will collaborate with the Facilities Manager to manage work conducted by external contractors.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain all facility aspects in a clean, safe, and efficient condition.
  • Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance on commercial electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems with precision.
  • Install and/or modify both new and existing equipment as necessary.
  • Work collaboratively with various departments within the organization.
  • Serve as a liaison for contractors working on-site.
  • Perform necessary carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, and masonry repairs and installations.
  • Address emergencies, equipment malfunctions, and technical challenges, organizing and resolving issues as needed.
  • Regularly inspect facilities, buildings, and systems, reporting any findings or concerns to the Facilities Manager.
  • Assist fellow maintenance personnel on special projects requiring additional support.
  • Provide emergency response support to janitorial staff.
  • Ensure that work areas and equipment are kept safe and functional.
  • Stay informed about local and federal regulations regarding OSHA compliance.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned to promote a positive public image, enhance organizational operations, and improve the quality of life for animals.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant maintenance experience is strongly preferred.
  • Basic understanding of HVAC-R systems, carpentry, electrical work, masonry, and plumbing installation and repairs.
  • Thorough knowledge of motors, small appliances, and both power and hand tools.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and general instructions for routine tasks.
  • Strong time management and communication skills.
  • Adherence to all safety protocols and procedures is essential.
  • Must be capable of lifting at least 50 lbs.
  • Successful completion of a background check is required upon hiring.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, and Word) and internet navigation.
  • A valid California driver's license, Class C, or the ability to obtain one within a 6-month probationary period is necessary.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required, with the ability to work irregular hours, shifts, weekends, holidays, and standby as needed.
