At Smithfield Foods, we are a leading U.S. food company with a commitment to quality and excellence. We are seeking dedicated individuals to fill the role of Hog Loader, a position that plays a crucial part in our operations.

Position Summary

The Hog Loader collaborates with fellow loaders to efficiently sort and transport finishing animals from pens to trucks, prioritizing animal welfare and proper handling techniques.

Key Responsibilities

• Efficiently sorts and loads animals while ensuring a SAFE working environment.
• Utilizes herding boards to guide animals from pens to aisles.
• Accurately counts animals as they are loaded onto trucks.
• Maintains cleanliness and organization of crew vehicles and equipment.
• Respects the property and equipment of growers.
• Upholds a positive company image at all times.
• Understands and adheres to company policies regarding Environmental, Biosecurity, and safety protocols.
• Familiarizes with the emergency notification process and reviews it regularly at the work site.
• Complies with personal protective equipment (PPE) policies.
• Assists in the training of new loading staff as needed.

Qualifications

To excel in this position, candidates should meet the following requirements:

• High School diploma or GED is preferred.
• Previous experience in livestock handling is advantageous.
• A valid driver's license is required.
• Capability to perform physically demanding tasks.
• Strong commitment to teamwork and collaboration.
• Proficiency in using loading equipment and tools.
• Flexibility to work various shifts, including days and nights.
• Supportive of the mission to raise swine for high-quality pork production.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills, fostering a respectful and positive work atmosphere.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

The characteristics of the work environment and physical demands are as follows:

• Vision requirements include close and distance vision, with the ability to adjust focus.
• Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
• Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands for handling, reach with arms, and communicate effectively.
• Must be able to tolerate exposure to blood, animal dander, manure, dust, odors, and noisy conditions.
