Occupational Medicine Professional

We are seeking a skilled Medical Assistant/LPN to join our team at Advocate Aurora Health. As a key member of our occupational medicine department, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting our clinicians in delivering exceptional healthcare services.
Responsibilities- Prepare patients for exams by obtaining vital signs and gathering relevant health information.
- Monitor and complete clinical integration/quality improvement measures, notifying clinicians of opportunities within their scope.
- Perform laboratory procedures, including strep tests, wound cultures, and specimen collection, using aseptic technique and standard precautions.
- Assist physicians/advanced practice clinicians with procedures such as pelvic exams, allergy scratch testing, EMG, cautery, and colposcopy.
- Administer routine medications under physician/APC orders or medical group-approved standing orders/protocols.
- Follow through with necessary procedure or test requests, pre-approved care algorithms, new appointment times, and referrals to other facilities or services.
- Communicate effectively with patients, team members, and physicians to ensure smooth clinic flow and adjust as necessary.
- Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within the Medical Assistant scope of practice after demonstrated competency.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop rapport and maintain positive, professional relationships with patients, team members, and physicians.
- Proficient computer skills, including keyboarding, navigation within a window operating system, and use of electronic mail with exposure to electronic medical records systems.
- Demonstrates customer service skills that support a positive patient experience.
This role requires sitting, standing, walking, lifting, squatting, bending, twisting, crawling, kneeling, climbing, and reaching above shoulders throughout the workday. Ability to lift 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts over 35 pounds, or when the patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other team member, when available.
Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with the ability to use fine-hand manipulation skills. Will be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, blood, and body fluids on a frequent basis and will be required to wear protective clothing and equipment as needed.
