Job Description

Capital Pump & Equipment is seeking a highly motivated and results-driven Outside Sales Representative to join our team. As an Outside Sales Representative, you will play a pivotal role in driving profitable growth by promoting and selling a wide range of specialized equipment, such as pumps and filtration systems, to clients in your assigned territory.

You will leverage your consultative sales skills to build strong, lasting relationships with customers while enhancing our brand and market presence. This role requires a strategic approach to developing new business, expanding existing customer bases, and consistently delivering exceptional customer service.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and grow revenue by prospecting new accounts, maintaining relationships with existing clients, and expanding business within your territory.
  • Target competitor accounts, cross-sell services, and identify new opportunities to promote our product range.
  • Manage all stages of the sales process, from preparing contracts and lease agreements to negotiating bids for new and existing projects.
  • Conduct 60 or more face-to-face calls per week with customers and prospects.
  • Submit 15 or more rental quotes per week and maintain an updated active quote file.
  • Showcase equipment through Tow-n-Shows weekly, demonstrating product features and benefits on-site.
  • Host monthly Lunch and Learn sessions to engage and educate customers.
  • Submit detailed weekly wrap-ups every Friday, including key activities, opportunities, and areas needing support.
  • Provide an active calls log to track customer interactions and progress toward goals.
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with clients to ensure customer retention and repeat business.
  • Engage in sales blitzes organized by management, focusing on target accounts and key growth opportunities.
  • Implement strategic sales plans to drive growth and ensure consistent results, tracking performance through reports, expenses, and call logs.
  • Monitor industry trends, competitors, and market conditions to stay competitive and adapt your approach as needed.
  • Coordinate with branch managers and leadership, participating in weekly sales meetings and calls.
  • Maintain a professional image by wearing company-branded attire and ensuring your truck is properly branded and stocked with sales materials.
  • Attend trade show mixers once a month to network and expand your professional connections.
  • Serve on a committee for a local trade association to stay informed about market trends and further develop your expertise.
  • Build relationships with local equipment rental companies and industry partners to strengthen your network and increase sales opportunities.
  • Provide after-hours and emergency support to address urgent customer needs and ensure quick resolutions for equipment breakdowns or project changes.
  • Ensure all contracts, sales brochures, and handouts are up to date and readily available in your vehicle.
  • Represent Capital Pump & Equipment at industry events, trade shows, and customer visits to enhance market presence and reputation.
  • Standard working hours are 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays, with additional hours as necessary to meet customer demands.
  • Must be able to travel regularly within your assigned territory and occasionally to other branches as required.

Qualifications and Requirements:
  • High School diploma required; a Bachelor's Degree in Business, Sales, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial/industrial/municipal equipment rental and service. Experience in selling pumps, filtration systems, or related equipment is highly preferred.
  • Proven consultative sales skills with a track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets.
  • Strong relationship-building, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce) and Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to create and present reports, contracts, and strategic plans.
  • Must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to multitask, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Comfortable working independently while contributing to team sales efforts and collaborating with internal stakeholders.
